F.L.A.I

AIKIDO OF IWAMA - LATIN AMERICAN FEDERATION

Initiated in 2005, our organization (FLAI) has its HEADQUARTERS and TECHNICAL-DIRECTOR in the group AIKIDO-IWAMA-BRASIL and the person of CARLOS NOGUEIRA in BRAZIL.

We form an organization open to the AIKIDOKAS who are interested in adding, also, to their AIKI study, the system of BUKI-WAZA (AIKI-KEN & AIKI-JO) and TAI-JUTSU of IWAMA.

Our philosophical objective is the development of a personal discipline, which may take us to, and maintain us in the best possible emotional and practical balance for an individual through the practice of AIKIDO.

The basic structure of our practice is the IWAMA TRAINING SYSTEM, originated with the FOUNDER MORIHEI UESHIBA and initially developed by MORIHIRO SAITO SHIHAN.

With the knowledge acquired directly from the FOUNDER, MORIHIRO SAITO SHIHAN developed a unique system of the AIKIDO PRACTICE which is characterized by a VIGOROUS BASIC TRAINING of TAI-JUTSU and BUKI-WAZA (AIKI-KEN & AIKI-JO).

The practice of this system take us to a possible comprehension of the interrelation that exists between these aspects of our Art, and of the dynamic foundation of its basic structure.

With the passing of the time, the news of SAITO-SHIHAN´s work arrived to the AIKIDO training centers around the world. Following the news, a pilgrimage of AIKIDOKAS started taking the direction of IWAMA CITY. Amid the AIKIDOKAS that traveled to study with MORIHIRO SAITO SHIHAN, the name IWAMA-RYU is born.

Even though the IWAMA TRAINING SYSTEM is more well known as IWAMA-RYU (Iwama style), I do not see this SYSTEM as a style apart, but as a structural base of our Art, which can be the foundation for the development of any personal style.

I believe that our Art, the AIKI, is a tool, an instrument of expression through which, those who follow its "DO" have a better view of who, he or she is.

Style is the representation of our character, is our philosophy of thought, and it is a physical manifestation of our spiritual presence.

I believe that whenever we create a good and solid base, the style flows freely.

The training is the base of the philosophy of our Art. Through the practice, we can and we should try to develop a individual discipline which may give us a vision of our reality and its constant changes. This vision can amplify our personal balance condition and create a possibility of a better community life, which we could call HAPPINESS.

We know that there is not perfection or guarantees
of constant happiness in any human system,

however, I believe that we could say that

A USEFUL AND ACTIVE LIFE
is a happy life.

I believe that is only through many years of intense study of the MARTIAL ASPECT of AIKI that we will have the possibility to meditate, understand and practice its philosophy in the day-to-day of our lives.

There are many forms of Art that can take us to the limit of our consciousness and to a transcendency from the body to the spirit and vice-versa, giving us glimpse of the divine, independently of what your definition and comprehension of this sentiment may be. What makes a Martial Art different in this sense, is that to attain this "ENLIGHTENMENT", we have to have an intense interaction with other human beings as the center of the process.

Nor all human beings are searching for, or are interested in walking on any kind of path to self knowledge, neither will all of those who are interested, find their way within the Martial Arts, or more particularly in the AIKI.

I believe that the people who are interested in this kind of process, are moved by an internal necessity or a force that pushes us to find a "method", a "way", or a "DO", through which we may be able to develop a capacity to feel, in a mind and body harmonic displacement, the recognition of this "POWER (KI)", which really exists, which creates and transforms life.

During the younger years of my life, my soul was influenced and filled with the readings of histories and myths of WARRIORS of many human cultures, especially the Japanese culture. Believing in the possibility of a human dimension of honor, chivalry and martial conduct, I searched for my "DO" within the Martial Arts and I found the AIKI.

Since my first steps within the AIKI practice path, I have seen the real possibility of this dimension of honor and chivalry in the hearts of many other human beings with whom I have met and trained, at the many DOJOS which I have visited.

Every day, whenever I enter the DOJO, even if for few hours and with few other human beings, I have the opportunity to live in that dimension.

I believe that:

Intrinsic to the human creativity and evolution is

the curiosity, the nonconformity, the diversity

and the conflict of ideological viewpoint.

&

Intrinsic to our spiritual development is

the human capacity of reflection and comprehension,

the necessity of affection, and

the development of emotional flexibility,

tolerance and collaboration.

Life is long enough to be a great adventure, and in parallel,

as a part of its paradox, it is too short

for us to waste time with any activity that may

keep us away from the possibility of this adventure.
